I’ve had a lot of down time during my trip to New Mexico (which, was successful, by the way) and I started drawing up my new year’s resolutions. Resolutions are always something I enjoy thinking about, pondering. My love of lists and self-improvement make this time of year a joyous occasion in ShanAmerica. I’ve compiled a list of 8 things for 2008, but I also stumbled upon this site and have decided to take part in the 1001 day challenge. And, lucky readers, you get to read them both (if you so choose). Read more…

Last night Boyfriend and I went to his Barbershop Christmas party.
There were so many things wrong with this picture I don’t even know where to begin.
I supposed the beginning is a good spot.

Last night I did something that I don’t normally get to do. I went out with a group of lovely ladies.

I’ve been thinking a lot about food lately.
Which, is not uncommon, of course, but generally my food thoughts are borderline obsessive and today it was more of a life reflection in terms of food experience than the normal calorie counting and “I shouldn’t be eating this.”
That said, I just ate about 10 uncooked pre sliced cookie dough pieces. Read more…

I’m slowly working on the huge post of Things You Probably Didn’t Want to Know About Me, but I thought I’d let you have a rifle-team related update as well.
In short, they did horribly tonight.
As a team we would have had a score of about 492. To win matches we need from 498-500. The new shooters are expected to be shooting in the mid nineties, the 3rd year shooters have no excuses. They do better when I stand there and tell them what to do, “make sure you squeeze the trigger, check your natural point of aim, etc” but once I stop they forget. It’s time for me to be mean coach. I’m going to write up a suggestion sheet and a “test” for them.
The questions will be such: You just shot a 9 at 3:00, what do you have to do to adjust yourself back into the ten ring?
If nothing else, it’ll give me something to do at work tomorrow.
Our first match is next Thursday, I’m excited.

Since I had some free time, and I love lists. Thanks to Brandy for the idea.
1) If you don’t have a list, you will undoubtedly bring home more than you went for
2) Pancakes taste better at a restaurant
3) Candy corn always seems like a good idea until you eat it.
4) The more you worry about something happening, the more likely it is to happen
5) Windshield wipers ARE trying to tell you something by the sound they make
6) The colder it is outside the less you want to get out of bed.
7) The surprise 5 dollar bill in your winter coat puts an extra skip in your step the rest of the day.
8) A written expression of love is better than a spoken one.
9) Time goes by faster the older you get.
10) Children will remember the one time you said an expletive in front of them 3 years ago, but won’t remember to put their dish in the sink after dinner.
11) It is impossible not to cook without sampling (thus I have no idea how chef’s do it)
12) Some things always taste better the next day.
13) Some things (Chinese) never taste as good the day after.
14) Sometimes, a specific bowl/spoon/fork/cup is required to truly complete the meal.
15) There are no official rules for hopscotch.
16) It would only take one or two more swings to flip over the swing set (regardless of what Myth Busters says).
17) You will only remember the good parts of past relationship when you’re single.
18) The bad parts will come rushing back once you’re in new relationship.
19) Going to sleep in daylight and waking up in darkness will always freak you out, regardless of how old/smart you are.
20) Computers only eat papers that are more than ½ completed.
21) Finals always count, regardless of what the teacher says.

Ok, so I’m going to work on multi-tasking while I write this.
I have things to do, like study and read Jane Austen. And, um, create mix cd’s for my upcoming New Mexico trip. You know, stuff of incredible importance, thus this will probably be short. Or, depending on how long it takes for my face mask to dry, incredibly long. Read more…

I’m not a big Christmas person.
I think it’s over commercialized and a big waste of money. I’d rather buy my friends and loved ones gifts during the year, when I find something I know they’d love (and I do), than be forced to because of some holiday tradition. But. It’s not a huge problem. I like to shop, and I love when I find that perfect present for someone on my list. And, I LOVE making lists. I also like presents

Alright so there are a few things worth noting tonight before I hit the sheets.
First of all I’m officially signed up for the Spring Break 2009 trip. It’s 1700, for airfare, accommodations for 10 days, a guide, all transportation, two meals a day, and three credits! Oh yea, and it’s to Paris, Rome, Milan, and Florence. Exciting!
Secondly I found an all-women sprint-length triathlon in Philly in July, I think I’ve talked AMD into doing it with me, which would be fun. That way we could keep each other in check and on schedule.
Thirdly the rifle team cuts were made tonight. It’s such a hard process, having to figure out who to cut (though it’s mostly done by score), but the head coach was nice and we actually didn’t cut as many kids as we thought we would. In practice tonight I helped one freshman girl shoot a 99 and another new shooter (senior, I believe) shoot a perfect 10-x hundred. It was so cool to be a part of their success, I understand now why my mom loves it so much.
The end of the semester is quickly approaching and I’m going to have to chain myself to a chair in the library tomorrow. I have a test and a presentation due on Saturday (yes, Saturday. Stupid weekender classes), and I have questions due on Monday. Saturday also marks the beginning of December, and I’ll have to buckle down and really commit myself to studying for the GREs. I’ve been doing a little bit of studying since I decided I wanted to apply to Ph.D. programs, but I told myself anything before December was bonus work. I’m shooting to study religiously for a month before I take the exams.
Stay tuned for further Christmasy updates tomorrow.
