Introduction
“Jack of All trades, master of none.” That’s the adage we’re all familiar with, but the lesser known version goes like this, “Jill: Master of All Trades.” It’s commonly accepted that women have a fantastic ability to multitask and it’s a good thing we do- balancing family, friends, work, and all other areas of our lives requires a good deal of skill.
As a recent college graduate and soon-to-be graduate student, I’m well aware of the pressures to succeed in finding a balance in the multiple areas of life. Through this column I hope to provide some insight as well as help for other 20-somethings like me; those who are trying to do it all, all the time. As your e-resident “Jill of all trades” I’ll provide articles about every subject from food and fitness to family and finance.
As for me, I was always that girl who was always on the move. When I was younger I’d often change or eat in the car on the way to my next activity and I’ve always seemed to have an interest in a variety of areas. From writing and crotchet to gymnastics and riflery I’ve always been a very well-rounded individual. Now at 21, I never seem to find myself in a position where there isn’t something I’m working on, be it professionally or personally. For starters I’m a full-time student at Wilkes University and I’m very involved on campus in various organizations, including my own self-started women’s interest group. Aside from school and those responsibilities I hold a part time position at a local hospital. Factor this into my other interests (running, yoga, pilates, cooking, baking, crotchet, writing, to name a few) and then mix in my attempts to become a published author, a commitment to my family and friends and a romantic relationship and I’ve got a lot on my plate.
I’m a yes woman, I’m always up for a new experience and I have a “Lifetime To-Do List” over 160 items long. I like being busy and I always seem to have a lot going, sometimes even to the point of mental breakdown, but somehow everything always ends up completed on time and my sanity is always restored quickly. I’m here to show you how “doing it all” is possible and provide you with ideas and suggestions for every aspect of your life.
